21st Birthday of the Creative Keyboard Club

What a  great afternoon on Sunday 11th March. We had an amazing crowd with lots of people from past years coming along for the celebration of 21 years.
The Waiheke Island Club were our guests for the afternoon along with Peter and Joyce Torckler from Whangarei.

Barbara McNab,Pam Rea, Peter Torckler, Janice Bates and Marlene Forrest made up the very first committee

It was lovely to have you all there.

The afternooon got off to a very nice start with Jimmy Pupin playing some very nice arrival music.  Colin Crann was our first entertainer for the afternoon followed by  Waiheke Islands own Madge Redwood
                                                                                         
  

Peter Littlejohn was next followed by Ann Sutton and David from Waiheke. David played our EL 90 Organ and sang a couple of Beatles numbers.

                              

  
The last part of the first half of the afternoon Peter Torkler  spoke on how the club was first formed back in 1991 and what the club had done in the last 21 years. This will all be available in the next Newsletter that will be published here early April.

 Marlene our current President then cut the Birthday Cake with Peter's help. Congratulations Creative Keyboard  Club! 
                                                                     
Peter then play two numbers on the Clavinova which were enjoyed very much by the audience. We wish we could hear more Peter!
 


Our second half got under way with nice performance from Barbara and Rob Powell, as always well enjoyed.
Brenda Long took the stage next followed by Taka Ilido on his D Deck organ. Pat Fisher finished the afternoon and as time allowed Dave Hallam played " Georgia" much to everyones delight.

   

After a great afternoon it was time to depart for the Bus Centre and Ferry back to Waiheke.

Club Meeting for February 2012

The first meeting for the Creative Keyboard Club Brown's Bay for 2012 got away to a great start on Sunday 12th February.

The afternoon was very hot and muggy but the music for the afternoon was exellent.
First up we had Ken Mahey playing the arrival music for us. Very nice it was Ken - Thank you.

Our first entertainer was a Pupil of Jessica Chen's, Katrina Lin. Katrina played Zachatus and Emporer Waltz on her Accordian. She is going to be one to watch over the next few years! Well done Katrina

Next came Peter Jackson playing " Undecided" and " Dance of the Old Fashion Way" singing along as he played.
Well done Peter.

Jimmy Puppyn on her Yamaha Keyboard then played " Mood Indigo" and Please Don't Talk About Me when I've gone" making a lovely job of her playing.

Marlen Forrest then played her Tyros 4 with a lovely version of " Send in the Clowns" . For her second choice she played " Manhatten" . Well played Marlene.

Shirely Smale was next up on the Tyros 4 with great sounds arrange by herself " Speak Softley Love" from The Godfather. Shirley's second choice was " This Can't be Love"

Allan Dadson gave the Clavinova Piano a work out with "What are your Doing the Rest of Your Life" and " Prelude in Classic Style". Both were enjoyed by all in the club.

To finish the first half Barbara McNab played the lovely tune "Summer Samba" and next " Zambesi"

Afternoon tea was served and the Second half of our programe was given over to Murray Hancox from Attwaters in the City. Murray played and sang some lovely songs and his performance was enjoyed by us all.

Club Day December 2011


Christmas Meeting December 2011


Our thanks go to Rob Powell for providing the arrival Music. Lovely Christmas Carols played on the EL90 Organ and some on the Tyros 3.
                                                                                               
There was a great range of musicians and music this afternoon.
Denise and Brian Gunson were first up on Piano and Guitar.

After Tea break came Colleen Kerr with her lovely touch on Piano.




Taka Iida then played his amazing keyboard Organ with pedal board.





Finally to close off the afternooon Dave Hallam and his friend and drummer Damion. Dave featured his newly acquired Hammond XK3 Digital Organ with it's extra lower manual & full pedalboard together with a Leslie 147.

This was a loverly Christmas programme to end yet another successful year

Club day November 13th 2011


Arrival Music was played by Colin Crann on Clavinova Piano  Thank you Colin
Diana Drinean play for us first “Always Something there to remind Me” and “ Our Day will Come”
Colin Crann  came back to play a further two pieces “ Loves Roundabout” and “ Pennies from Heaven”
Ken Mahy on his Korg keyboard then played “ All of Me “ and “ Zing went the Strings of My Heart”



Peter Jackson then change the theme and sang two numbers while his keyboard played along with him. These were “ Till You come Again” and “ My Xmas List”
Gordon Sutherland came next playing “ Fernando “ and “ You’re My World”


Peter Littlejohn ended the first half with “ All Creatures Great and Small” and “ Medley from  Dirty Dancing”
Guest Artist was Chris Larking from Music Planet playing in his wonderful way on the latest Korg keyboard, he played a mix of well known favourites including My Heart will Go On, Satin Doll, Something, Girl from Ipanema, Superstition (his own arrangement), a medley of National Anthems, The Lady is a Tramp and Circle of Life.
Great to see you back Chris and our thanks to you for sharing today with us at Creative.
A great variety for the afternoon, Thanks to everyone.


Afternoon tea followed with a lovely spread provided by Shirley Smales family on the occasion of Shirleys birthday.  Happy Birthday Shirley.

October 2011 Meeting

The arrival music was played by Ian Jackson and enjoyed by all as he just  progressed from song to song and appeared to be in a world of his own that he was also enjoying.  

Our first on the program for the afternoon was:
Colin Crann Playing the Clavinova Piano. Colin played “ Wonderful” and “ Acorda Amor”. As always very enjoyable.
Noni Walker came next playing for us for the first time. Noni played “ Unforgettable” and “ The Last Waltz” Those nerves didn’t come across very much at all. Well done Noni, we look forward to more!Shirley Smale played on her Tyros 4 two lovely pieces “Love is Many a Splendid Thing” and “ Born Free”. Well done Shirley.
 
Allan Dadson came next with his lovely Piano style playing “ The Floral Dance” and “Musetta Waltz”
Barbara McNab Played also Piano “Singing in the Rain” and I’m Sitting on Top of the World”
Too end the first half of our afternoon Dave Hallam Played “Here there and Everywhere”, “ Singin Safari “ and Caravan” all on Piano.
Well done everyone lovely first half.

Our Guest Artists for the afternoon were Janice Lam and Stephanie Lai from Albany Senior High School. Both Girls played the Piano. Very classical and well played. More in the next newletter about these two talented  young ladies.

September 2011 Meeting

Arrival Music was played by Peter Littlejohn on Piano and a job very well done thanks Peter.
Diana Dreaneen played for the first time at the club and did just so well with no show of nerves she claimed to have! Diana played ' 76 Trombones"and " Pretty Woman"
Alexandra Reekie then played two tunes on her Accordian. Alexandra is practicing for the World Champs coming up soon.
Des Rouse was next up and played a very nice rendition of " Theres a Kind ofHush " and " Only You"
Patrick Liu aged 14 another Accordian player and World Champs competitor was next with "Schon Rosmann" and " Night Express" Good luck to both these Accordianists.
Tina Yang a pupil of Dorothy Waddel came next on Piano playing "Apple Blossom" and "In the Church"
Cindy Yang Tina's sister then played " Autumn Splendour" and " Dance in the Firelight" Both these girls are a credit to Dorothy and she must be so proud of them.
Laurie Conder on his Roland keyboard then gave us " My Happiness" and "Wonderland by Night"
Peter Littlejohn finished the first half with " Lady in Red"
Our Guests for the afternoon were numerous. Dorothy had organised this
special second half. Cassandra McC owan showed us her beautiful voice by
singing "Over the Rainbow" and " On My Own"
Sam Ducker sang " Mister Cellophane" and ' The Colours of my Life" Both
were accompanied by Dorothy on Piano. This was so enjoyed by everyone.
Next Cassandra and Sam did a duet " All I Ask of You" and from My Fair Lady
" Wouldn't it be Loverly and Get Me to the Church on Time"
Dorothy then had Vladimir Shapkin Playing his Violin -- " Hungarian Dance No 6 (Brahms)
and Czardas (Monit)
Too top off the afternoon a special guest arrived at 3:45. This was none other than Will Martin. He was just wonderful and such a nice chap. Not minding Requests for photos and was happy to sign autographes. He sang three songs unaccompanied and told a tale or two. Thanks Will.

 AUGUST 2011 MEETING
Many thanks to Alan Powell for providing the arrival music. The meeting then proceeded with the following players:

Peter Jackson: singing Lullaby of Birdland, As Time Goes By and Let There Be You
Ian Jackson: Unforgettable, A Time for Us and Misty (Clavinova)
Alan Powell: The Chance you Took and Isle of Innisfree (Yamaha PSR910)
Alan Dadson: The Red Sarafan and Gymnopedie No.1 (Clavinova)
After tea we welcomed the North Shore Accordion Orchestra as our Guest Players for the day. We were treated to a variety of different players of all ages from tiny tots in the
junior section to seasoned performers in the senior section. Also featured was Jessica Chen and George Xu who played 2 duets together. Altogether a very impressive
performance and we extend our thanks to everyone who played.
Just in passing I felt that the standard of the entire presentation today, inclusive of our own Club performers in the first half, was of a very high level. May this continue in the future!
