Creative Keyboard Club March 2014 Meeting

Creative Keyboard Club March 2014 Meeting

Another enjoyable afternoon with MC Marlene Forrest and our club members in the first half followed by our guest artiste Peter Torckler. Yuko Tani played our arrival music on Clavinova.

Players in the first half were Laurie Condor ('You Win Again', 'Leah') on keyboard; Hannah Tani (Yuko's daughter, 'Clock Work Doll' and 'Rondo') on Clavinova; Jimmy Puppyn ('Red Sails in The Sunset', 'Accordion Man') on keyboard; Pam Rea ('Waves of The Danube', 'Georgia On My Mind') on keyboard; Allan Powell ('La Paloma', 'Beer Barrel Polka') on keyboard; Barbara McNabb ('Jar of Hearts', 'Satin Doll') on Clavinova; and Taka Iida ('Copacabana', 'Elan') on his magnificent 3 deck Yamaha. All in all a quality performance from everyone. Thank you all.

Peter Torckler one of our original club members entertained in the 2nd half on Clavinova and his Yamaha keyboard. Peter played a varied selection from the rousing 'Hawaii 5 O', Latin American numbers, and ended up fantastically on Clavinova with the 'Flight of The Bumblebee', a 'Walk in The Black Forest' and 'All of Me'. Thank you Peter, you have not lost any of your magic!

Photo's of the afternoon can be viewed in our Photo Gallery at the top of the page.

Creative Keyboard Club February 2014 Meeting

Creative Keyboard Club February 2014 Meeting

Marlene Forrest was the MC for the afternoon and Ian Jackson played the arrival music.
Peter Jackson started on keyboard with 'Cavatina' providing the lesser known vocals. He also played and sang 'Juke Box On Saturday Night'.
Barbara Powell followed with 2 Orchestral pieces on Tyros, 'Serenade' from The Student Prince and 'To Each His Own'. It is not often we hear the orchestra on the keyboard.
5 year old Chloe Baughan then entertained us with her song and dance routine 'On The Good Ship Lollipop'. This was followed by soloist mum Jan Marie Baughan singing 'No One Like You' (from the movie Powder) and 'My Prayer'. Jan Marie was accompanied by Dorothy Waddell on Clavinova.
Rob Powell was next up with 'You Make Me Feel So Young' and 'Island In The Sun' on keyboard. Rob is eagerly awaiting his Tyros 5!
Ian Jackson was back again with 'Over The Rainbow' and 'September Song'.
Carole Littlejohn, who was passing through again, finished off our first half with 'Only You' and 'Fernandos Hideaway'.
Thank you to all our first halfers - you all did a wonderful job!

After our tea break guest artist jazz pianist Mike Walker (President of the Auckland Jazz & Blues Club), entertained with some classic jazz pieces on clavinova. These included tunes from the likes of Fats Waller and even the Beatles ('Eleanor Rigby'). 'Tangerine', 'Monk's Dream', 'McArthur Park' to name a few and ended with Sweet Georgia Brown. Mike's own composition 'Smile' written for his daughter was also enjoyed. Many Thanks again Mike - and I think your jokes were age appropriate!
