Creative Keyboard Club December 2017 Meeting

This was our Club Christmas Party. MC was Marlene Forrest, arrival Music by Mary Barrett on keyboard and our guest artiste was Sandy Lynch on clavinova.
Our Program ...
Rob Powell on clavinova with 'You Make Me Feel So Young', a foxtrot Medley (which included 'Darktown Strutters Ball', '5ft 2'), 'A Nightingale Sang' and the 'Coffee Song'
Denise Gunson on clavinova with some Christmas Songs ('Away in a Manger', 'Silent Night', 'I'll Be Home For Christmas'), 'I Love You For Sentimental Reasons', 'Sentimental Journey', 'Close To Me', and 'Moon River'
Mary Barrett on her korg Pa4X keyboard with a medley from Grease ('Summer Nights', 'Freddy, My Love', 'Greased Lightnin', 'We Go Together') and 'I Can't get Started'
After a festive afternoon tea, including a wonderful Christmas Cake, the numerous Christmas hamper Raffles were drawn by Santa (Dave Winslade).

Our ever popular guest Sandy Lynch then entertained on clavinova with a variety of genres ... Boogie Woogie, Ragtime, March, Jazz, Movie Themes and Christmas Songs. Songs included 'The Christmas Song', 'Nutcracker Boogie', 'This Could Be the Start of Something Big', 'Jingle Bells', Carol Medley ('Deck The Halls', 'Hark The Herald Angels Sing', 'Away In A Manger'), 'Begin The Beguine', 'Georgia On My Mind', and concluded with 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town'. Wonderful Sandy!

Taka Iida with 'Saving All My Love For You' and 'Pirates of The Caribbean'
Our guest was Murray McIlwraith who gave a great performance by all accounts.

George Markwick on his korg keyboard with 'By The Light of The Silvery Moon' and 'Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On'
Ora Lefebvre sang 'Night and Day' a capella
Allan Powell on his Yamaha keyboard with 'Hey Jude' and 'Roll Out The Barrell'
Denise Gunson on clavinova with 'Tenderly' and 'Moonlight Serenade'
Mary Barrett finished off the first half with 'Whistling Rufus' and the theme to 'Picnic' (from the movie of the same name and coupled with 'Moonglow')

Our guest today was Joe Fingers (pianos, keyboard, vocals) accompanied by Murray Merssen (Clarinet and Sax). Joe started as always with the 'William Tell Overture'. This duo performed many old favourites including 'Johnstone Rag' (3 keyboards + clarinet), 'Where The River Shannon Flows', 'Hold Me', 'Stranger On The Shore', a unique rendition of 'Nola', 'Where or When', some Mozart, an Irish medley (complete with tin whistle), some Dixieland and ended with 'My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean' and 'I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now'. Tributes to the late great Colin Meads (to the tune of 'My Old Man's a Dustman') and to the Black Ferns (to the tune of 'Rhinestone Cowboy') were both written and performed by Joe. A very lively and entertaining afternoon. Thank you All.

Creative Keyboard Club September 2017 Meeting

Marlene Forrest was the MC and guest Vince Keene played the arrival music on keyboard.
Program ...
Ever popular guest Chris Larking brought his family along. Joshua on Guitar and vocals, Alex on Saxophone, with Julie on video. Chris started the program on clavinova with "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". Songs included "Fly Me To The Moon" (Josh vocals), "Satin Doll", "New York, New York" (Josh guitar), "Baker Street" (Alex Sax), "St. Elmo's Fire", "I Dreamed A Dream", "Moon Over Bourbon Street" (Josh guitar and vocals), "The Sound of Silence", "Song For Guy" (very tricky backing Chris), "Party Rockers Solo" (the Larking Trio). Chris ended with a medley of "Ode To Joy", "Waltzing Matilda" and concluded with our National Anthem. Well Done Larking Family - we thoroughly enjoyed your playing!

Barbara Powell on her Tyros 5 with 'Memory'. Barbara was then joined by husband Rob on clavinova with 'Tangerine' and 'You're My Everything'
Rob Powell on clavinova with 'All The Things You Are'
Denise Gunson on clavinova with 'You Belong To Me' and 'I'm Not In Love'
Taka Iida on his Yamaha Stagea with 3 tunes including 'Star Wars' and 'You Raise Me Up'

Our guest for the afternoon was pianist and teacher Sandy Lynch. Sandy played a varied selection and gave some wonderful insight to her musical career. Songs included 'Over The Rainbow', 'Kitten On The Keys', Pink Panther Theme, 'Coppelia', 'Johnston Rag', 'Bewitched' and 'I Dream of Jeannie' (as a medley), 'Funiculi Funicula', 'Charade', 'Love Story', 'Alexander's Ragtime Band', and ended with 'Up, Up and Away', 'A Time For Us' and 'Hine E Hine' (the Goodnight Kiwi iconic song). Most entertaining Sandy and we hope to see you again soon. Many thanks to all our performers today.

Dave played a varied selection across many genres 'Tennessee Waltz', '1 Note Samba', 'On My Own' (Les Mis), 'I Could Have Danced All Night', 'Wouldn't It Be Lovely', 'Night And Day' (request), 'Our Love Is Here To Stay', ''Till There Was You', 'Love Story' Theme, 'Speak Softly' Godfather theme, 'The Shadow Of Your Smile', 'Unforgettable', 'Nature Boy', 'Blue Moon', 'Wonderful World' (request), 'This Guys In Love With You', and finished with 'Danny Boy' and the 'Sky Boat Song'. Mary Barrett on her korg keyboard with 'Yellow Polka Dot Bikini' and 'Clarinet Marmalade' (1918)
Rob (clavinova) and Barbara Powell (keyboard) entertained with their 'Let's Do It Again/Charleston' bracket followed by 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes\In The Mood'
Denise Gunson on clavinova with 'Theme from Romeo and Juliet' and 'September In The Rain'. Denise has her CD out and is taking orders
As there was still a little time left Mary finished with 'I Talk To The Trees' on keyboard.

Our guests today were Ben Fernandez and Jess Rogers (vocals) and their theme was 'Weather'. Songs included 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow', 'Blue Skies', 'Sunny Side of The Street', 'Stormy Weather' boogie, 'Sunny', 'Summertime' (vocals), 'Cry Me A River', 'How About a Dance' (from Bonnie and Clyde, vocals), 'My Blue Heaven'. Jess is a wonderful Jazz singer showing a lot of maturity for her 17 years. Ben was then joined by son Joshua (7) playing duets to round off the afternoon. Ben also has a new CD which is available.
Thank You to all our performers. Once again a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Creative Keyboard Club February 2017 Meeting

Our first meeting of the year. The MC was Marlene Forrest and the arrival music was played on his korg keyboard by Roy Steen.
Our program ...
As is our tradition President Marlene started the year off on her Tyros 4 with 'Begin The Beguine' and 'A Summer Place'
Dorothy Waddell played on Clavinova 'Going Home' and 'Just a Simple Melody'
Barbara McNab on the Tyros 4 with 'Budapest' and 'Georgie Girl'
Roy Steen was back with some marches and was joined by Audrey Henden who sang Volare (in Italian and English). A hidden talent there, Audrey has a wonderful singing voice!
David Winslade on the Tyros with 'Amazing Grace' and 'Pretty Woman' (with lyrics)
Many thanks to all our players today ... we've started the year off with a bang!
If anyone is interested in playing over the next few months please let Marlene know, you don't have to be an expert ... all ages and levels are very welcome.

Our guest today was Murray Hancox on clavinova. Murray started with 'Save The Last Dance For Me' (vocals), 'Behind Closed Doors' (for Marlene) and took many requests including  'Misty', 'Chariots of Fire', 'Ipanema' (vocals), 'Fields Of Gold', 'Danny Boy (vocals), 'Autumn Leaves', 'Rum and Coca Cola', 'A Lovely Day' (vocals). A very versatile and professional performer with many off the cuff renditions thoroughly appreciated by all. Thank you Murray.
