Creative Keyboard Club July 2013 Meeting

Creative Keyboard Club July 2013 Meeting

Marlene Forrest was our MC for the occasion and our arrival music was played by Joy Eade on Clavinova (sorry it wasn't a Grand). It has been a long while since we have heard from Joy and it was much appreciated. Welcome back Joy!

First up was our octogenarian birthday boy Colin Crann on his new Korg PA588 (I wonder if it was a birthday present). Colin played 'Lover Come Back To Me' and 'Softly as In A Morning Sunrise'. Thankyou Colin and it's interesting what you can do with that Intro in the middle of a tune.

New member Kuniko Nakatani then played very professionally on the Clavinova, 'Piano Man' and 'Rainy Days and Mondays'. Thankyou Kuniko and we would be delighted to hear more from you before you leave us in November.

Laurie Conder played around with time signatures and gave us the Beatles 'Let It Be' and 'Hey Jude' showing us just how versatile he can be.

New member Errol Storey made his club debut on Clavinova 'I Only Want To Be With You' and very nicely played. Thankyou for standing in at such short notice Errol.

Diana Drineen was next on her Yamaha playing a lovely Orchestral rendition of  'Don't Cry for Me Argentina' and then 'Return To Sender' country style. Well done once again Diana

Peter Littlejohn finished up our first half on Clavinova with 'Spanish Flea' and 'Tijuana Brass' in his own colourful fashion. Thankyou Peter.

Our guest artists duo Jan and Kevin Johnston then entertained for the rest of the afternoon. Jan on her Korg PAX keyboard and Kevin guitaring. Many great dance hits including 'The Best Things in Life are Free', 'Cheek to Cheek', 'Bye Bye Blues', featuring swing, samba, rhumba, django and finishing with a sing-a-long Pokarekare Ana

Thankyou both .... you are always enjoyed!

Creative Keyboard Club June 2013 Meeting

Creative Keyboard Club June 2013

Our arrival music was played by Peter Jackson on his new Yamaha PSR S950 and our MC for the occassion was Dave Hallam.

Our program commenced with Marlene Forrest playing 'Spartacus' and 'Bolero' ... loved the styles and enjoyed by all. Thank you Marlene.

Next up was new member Yuko Tani making her club debut on Clavinova. Yuko played 'Love Story' and 'The Plough of God'.
Well played and looking forward to hearing more from you Yuko.

Shirley Smale then entertained us on the Tyros with 'With All My Heart and Soul' and 'Snowbird'. Well done Shirley.
Our mentor and sound technician David Hallam also played on Tyros the very patriotic 'I Vow To Thee My Country' and then on Clavinova 'The Way You Look Tonight'. Great as usual Thank You Dave.

Roy Steene on the Korg keyboard played 'Taking A Chance On Love' and a medley containing 'Clouds of Daffodils' and 'Volare'. He rendered these very well!

Takashi Iida then performed on his unique Yamaha Electone D Deck 'Londonderry' and 'Show Time' (and 'Sincerely'). Is he really nicknamed 'Ivan The Terrible'? Very nice Taka.

After the intermission our guest pianist Vladimir Shilov entertained on Clavinova. A great variety ranging from Gershwin's 'The Man I Love' (my personal favourite), 'Fidler on the Roof', Sambas, some Jazz and to the show stopper 'Putting On The Ritz'. With a little interlude from the Modern School of Music archives (it's amazing what you can find in Op Shops). Thank You Vladimir ... you are always a popular and versatile performer and we look forward to hearing from you again.
Sorry the photo doesn't do you justice Vladimir
