Creative Keyboard Club November 2014 Meeting

Our program ...
Colin Crann commenced on keyboard with 'That Da-Da Strain' and the 'Original Dixieland One Step'
George Markwick on keyboard with 'Just a Song at Twilight' and 'And I Love You So'
Pam Rea on keyboard with 'Till' and 'Serenade'
Laurie Conder on his new Roland keyboard with 'Somewhere My Love' and 'Beautiful Sunday'
Mary Barrett on keyboard with the theme to 'Steptoe' and 'The Lonely Shepherd'
Barbara Powell on keyboard with 'Til Then' and 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina'
Barbara and husband Rob then dueted on keyboard and clavinova respectively with 'Crazy' and 'Quando Quando'.
A good variety for the first half. Thank you all.

Our guest artiste Chris Larking then entertained us on keyboard and clavinova assisted by Dave Hallam for the finale. Songs included 'Shelby' Coming 'Round the Mountain', 'You Are My Sunshine',
'The Lady is a Tramp', 'Black Coffee', 'Sway', 'Yesterday' on keyboard. After donning his new glasses Chris moved on to the clavinova with 'Love of My Life', 'New York City', a lesson in improvisation with 'Twinkle Twinkle', 'The First of May', 'Sailing', 'Le Roy Jones' and then with Dave 'Amazing Grace'. Great to see you back with us again Chris. Amazing as always!

Creative Keyboard Club October 2014 Meeting

Our MC for the occasion was Marlene Forrest and the arrival music was played on keyboard by Peter Jackson.
Program ...
Roz Bissett on her keyboard with 'Tangerine' and a medley of  'Where is Your Heart' and 'Tenderly'
8 year old Hana Tani on clavinova with 'Line Dance of The Tulips'
Mother Yuko Tani also on clavinova with 'I Need to be In Love'
They then dueted with a Schubert waltz
Barbara McNab on her Tyros with 'Witchcraft' and 'Making Whoopie'
Rob Powell on clavinova with 'She' and 'More than Ever' (featured recently on Call the Midwife)
Roy Steen on his keyboard with 2 rousing marches 'Strike Up The Band' and a 'Stars and Stripes Forever' medley
Denise Gunson on clavinova with 'Moon River' and 'Just The Way You Are'
Ian Jackson finished up our first half with 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' on clavinova
Thank You to all our players - you all did a wonderful job.

Our guest Lionel Reekie and daughter Alexandra then took to the stage with their piano accordions. Alexandra is currently fundraising for her trip to the World Accordion Championships in Austria where she will be competing. Lionel played some amazing tangos and Latin numbers including 'Quando, Quando, Quando', 'Jealousy' and 'Crazy'. They dueted and Alexandra then dazzled us with a polka and a couple of jazz numbers. Alexandra like her father, is a truly talented performer and showed us why at the age of 13 she has just won both the NZ and Australian Accordion Championships (in her age group). We wish her all the best with the Worlds! Lionel then ended a wonderful afternoon with the perennial 'Now Is The Hour'.

Creative Keyboard Club September 2014 Meeting

The MC for the occasion was Marlene Forrest and the arrival music was played by Allan Powell on keyboard.
Program ...
John Beale a great regular performer on keyboard with 'Pasadina' and 'I Get A Kick Out of You'.
Gweneth Beck on our Yamaha Electone with 'Somewhere Out There' and 'Your's'. Lovely registrations Gweneth.
Noni Walker on our Clavinova with some nice easy listening, 'Feelings' and 'Nobody Does it Better'.
Jimmy Puppyn on her keyboard with 'Music Music Music' and 'Blue Velvet'. Great as always.
Peter Jackson on keyboard with 'I Dreamed A Dream' and 'Lady' in which he showed off his fine singing voice.
Allan Powell returned on keyboard with 'Ob La Di Ob La Da' and 'Memories Are Made of This'
John Perkin on keyboard with 'Bluesette' (French Jazz Waltz) and 'You Are The Sunshine of My Life' with his usual finesse.
A BIG Thank you to all our performers and helpers!

Our guest artiste for the second half was renowned pianist Vladimir Shilov on the club Clavinova. Vladimir gave us some excellent tips on playing the Electric piano and a good variety ranging from Latin American, Boogie Woogie, Blues, Russian Soul and Classical. We also heard some of his fascinating life history. Tunes included 'The Shadow of Your Smile', 'The Man I Love', 'Since I fell For You', 'Summertime' and 'You Are So Beautiful to Me'. Always a pleasure to have you perform at the club Vladimir and we look forward to seeing you back again soon.

Dave Hallam (keyboard) and Cameron Livingston (Clavinova) duets with 'In Dreams' and 'Lord of the Rings'
Barbara Powell played 'An Affair to Remember'. Barbara and husband Rob played 'Stranger In Paradise' and 'Quando Quando' together.
Rob played 'She'
Colin Crann concluded the first half with 'Muskrat Ramble' and Stealing Apples'
A BIG Thank You to our club members who played today.

Our guests today were the North Shore Music Makers Accordion Orchestra under the baton of Christine Johnstone and assisted by her daughter Renee Jeffries.
This Orchestra has just won the NZ Junior Accordion Orchestra Championship 2014!
They started off with 'The Birdie Dance' and we were also treated with this again as an encore!
Several soloists took the stage .. Veronica Eric, Craig, Jessie, Carl, Anna and the cutest and possibly youngest drummer in NZ (aged 8). Thank you for spending time with us today - you are all amazing.

Hannah Tani (8 yrs) on clavinova with 'Blue Sky Blues' and 'Singing Song'
Hannah's mum Yuko Tani also on clavinova with 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' and a Japanese number 'Sunflower'
Pam Rea on her new Korg pa900 keyboard played 'O My Beloved Father' and 'Volare'
John Perkin also on his Korg pa900 with 'Change Partners' and 'Tico Tico'
Denise Gunston on clavinova with 'Unchained Melody' and 'Glory of Love'
Roy Steen on keyboard with 'Hello Dolly' and 'Just One Of Those Things'
Thus ended the first half ... thank you to all our players today.

Our guest artist was Dave Hallam accompanied by Damien Shalfoon on drums and Guy Halpe on double bass and bass guitar. The trio thoroughly entertained us with many jazz renditions. They commenced with 'Day's Of Wine and Roses' and included lots of favourites, 'Angel Eyes', 'One Note Samba', 'Wave',  'Beyond The Sea', 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love', 'till There Was You' to name a few and ended with a medley of sing-a-longs 'White Cliffs Of Dover', 'I'll Be Seeing You' and 'We'll Meet Again'. I hope we do all meet again guys! You all gave us a very polished performance, very enjoyable and we look forward to hearing you again at the club.

STOP PRESS: The Dave Hallam Trio are indeed giving us another chance to hear them. They will be playing at Settlers Lifestyle Village, 550 Albany Highway, Albany on Sunday September 7th at 2.30pm. There will be a gold coin donation to defray expenses. See You There!

Barbara McNab (keyboard) and Dave Palmer (harmonica) with 'Sentimental Journey' and the very enjoyable 'White Cliffs of Dover'.

Our guest artist for the second half was Rob Powell on the Tyros 4 and our Clavinova. Rob's selection included 'Coffee in Brazil', 'Her bathing Suit Never Got Wet', 'Route 66', 'The Gypsy', 'South of the Border', 'At The Hop' and 'You Belong To Me. Thank You Rob, always a welcome performer at the Club.

Creative Keyboard Club May 2014 Meeting

Marlene Forrest was our MC for the occasion and the arrival music was played by Diane Lyons on keyboard. This was a 'Do It Yourself' day with our members playing the entire program.

First up was John Beale on his Korg PA500 playing 'Another Somebody' and 'Anema E Core'. Robin Brown on Clavinova with 'Edelweiss' and 'Polish Dance' (unfortunately nerves do get to the best of us Robin and we hope you can play again for us). Michael Bramley played 'Cavatina' and 'Singing In The Rain' on his new Korg PA X. George Markwick was next with 'Your Cheating Heart' and 'Three Coins in a Fountain' on his Korg PA800. Noni Walker and Marlene Forrest dueted on Clavinova and keyboard with 'Unforgetable' and 'Moonlight Serenade'. The very talented Eve Chen sang 'You Raise Me Up' accompanied by equally talented daughter Jessica on piano accordion. Peter Littlejohn finished our first half with 'All Creatures Great and Small' and 'Titanic' on Clavinova.

Our second half started with Mary Barrett on George's Korg playing 'Canadian Sunset' and the toe tapper 'Tipperary'. Peter Jackson on his Yamaha keyboard played 'Do You Know The way To San Hose' and 'My Favourite Things'. Diane Lyons joined us again with 'Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer', 'Goodie Goodie' and 'Danny Boy'. Rob and Barbara Powell dueted on piano and keyboard with 'Play A Simple Melody' and 'Birth of The Blues'. Barbara McNab concluded with 'Blame It On The Bossanova' and 'Down Town Strutters Ball' on Tyros.

We Thank all our performers for sharing with us and making it such a fun afternoon
