Barbara Powell played 'An Affair to Remember'. Barbara and husband Rob played 'Stranger In Paradise' and 'Quando Quando' together.

Colin Crann concluded the first half with 'Muskrat Ramble' and Stealing Apples'
A BIG Thank You to our club members who played today.

Our guests today were the North Shore Music Makers Accordion Orchestra under the baton of Christine Johnstone and assisted by her daughter Renee Jeffries.
This Orchestra has just won the NZ Junior Accordion Orchestra Championship 2014!
They started off with 'The Birdie Dance' and we were also treated with this again as an encore!
Several soloists took the stage .. Veronica Eric, Craig, Jessie, Carl, Anna and the cutest and possibly youngest drummer in NZ (aged 8). Thank you for spending time with us today - you are all amazing.

Creative Keyboard Club July 2014 Meeting

Marlene Forrest was the MC for the occasion and the arrival music was played by Mary Barrett on clavinova. There was a record attendance at our meeting today.

Program ...
George Markwick on his Korg pa800 played 'Ebb Tide' and 'Make The World Go Away'
Hannah Tani (8 yrs) on clavinova with 'Blue Sky Blues' and 'Singing Song'
Hannah's mum Yuko Tani also on clavinova with 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' and a Japanese number 'Sunflower'
Pam Rea on her new Korg pa900 keyboard played 'O My Beloved Father' and 'Volare'
John Perkin also on his Korg pa900 with 'Change Partners' and 'Tico Tico'
Denise Gunston on clavinova with 'Unchained Melody' and 'Glory of Love'
Roy Steen on keyboard with 'Hello Dolly' and 'Just One Of Those Things'
Thus ended the first half ... thank you to all our players today.

Our guest artist was Dave Hallam accompanied by Damien Shalfoon on drums and Guy Halpe on double bass and bass guitar. The trio thoroughly entertained us with many jazz renditions. They commenced with 'Day's Of Wine and Roses' and included lots of favourites, 'Angel Eyes', 'One Note Samba', 'Wave',  'Beyond The Sea', 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love', 'till There Was You' to name a few and ended with a medley of sing-a-longs 'White Cliffs Of Dover', 'I'll Be Seeing You' and 'We'll Meet Again'. I hope we do all meet again guys! You all gave us a very polished performance, very enjoyable and we look forward to hearing you again at the club.

STOP PRESS: The Dave Hallam Trio are indeed giving us another chance to hear them. They will be playing at Settlers Lifestyle Village, 550 Albany Highway, Albany on Sunday September 7th at 2.30pm. There will be a gold coin donation to defray expenses. See You There!

Barbara McNab (keyboard) and Dave Palmer (harmonica) with 'Sentimental Journey' and the very enjoyable 'White Cliffs of Dover'.

Our guest artist for the second half was Rob Powell on the Tyros 4 and our Clavinova. Rob's selection included 'Coffee in Brazil', 'Her bathing Suit Never Got Wet', 'Route 66', 'The Gypsy', 'South of the Border', 'At The Hop' and 'You Belong To Me. Thank You Rob, always a welcome performer at the Club.

Creative Keyboard Club May 2014 Meeting

Marlene Forrest was our MC for the occasion and the arrival music was played by Diane Lyons on keyboard. This was a 'Do It Yourself' day with our members playing the entire program.

First up was John Beale on his Korg PA500 playing 'Another Somebody' and 'Anema E Core'. Robin Brown on Clavinova with 'Edelweiss' and 'Polish Dance' (unfortunately nerves do get to the best of us Robin and we hope you can play again for us). Michael Bramley played 'Cavatina' and 'Singing In The Rain' on his new Korg PA X. George Markwick was next with 'Your Cheating Heart' and 'Three Coins in a Fountain' on his Korg PA800. Noni Walker and Marlene Forrest dueted on Clavinova and keyboard with 'Unforgetable' and 'Moonlight Serenade'. The very talented Eve Chen sang 'You Raise Me Up' accompanied by equally talented daughter Jessica on piano accordion. Peter Littlejohn finished our first half with 'All Creatures Great and Small' and 'Titanic' on Clavinova.

Our second half started with Mary Barrett on George's Korg playing 'Canadian Sunset' and the toe tapper 'Tipperary'. Peter Jackson on his Yamaha keyboard played 'Do You Know The way To San Hose' and 'My Favourite Things'. Diane Lyons joined us again with 'Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer', 'Goodie Goodie' and 'Danny Boy'. Rob and Barbara Powell dueted on piano and keyboard with 'Play A Simple Melody' and 'Birth of The Blues'. Barbara McNab concluded with 'Blame It On The Bossanova' and 'Down Town Strutters Ball' on Tyros.

Creative Keyboard Club April 2014 Meeting

MC was once again Marlene Forrest (she makes a wonderful MC) and the arrival music was played by Sue Bain on Clavinova. It was Sue's first time playing at the club and she did very well. The AGM then followed with all officers re-elected.

First up for the afternoons entertainment was Roy Steen on keyboard with 'Hava Nagila' and the 'Stars and Stripes Forever' march. Ian Jackson on clavinova with 'Night and Day' and 'September Song'. Roz Biset played 'Misty' and 'Autumn Leaves' on keyboard and Dave Hallam followed with 'I'm Confessing' and 'Try a Little Tenderness' on clavinova. Well played and Thank You to everyone.

Club member, pianist Denise Gunson was our guest artiste. It was lovely to get some background to her artistry and life story with songs that had a special meaning to her. Well played Denise, something a little different and much appreciated, thank you.

Creative Keyboard Club March 2014 Meeting

Another enjoyable afternoon with MC Marlene Forrest and our club members in the first half followed by our guest artiste Peter Torckler. Yuko Tani played our arrival music on Clavinova.

Players in the first half were Laurie Condor ('You Win Again', 'Leah') on keyboard; Hannah Tani (Yuko's daughter, 'Clock Work Doll' and 'Rondo') on Clavinova; Jimmy Puppyn ('Red Sails in The Sunset', 'Accordion Man') on keyboard; Pam Rea ('Waves of The Danube', 'Georgia On My Mind') on keyboard; Allan Powell ('La Paloma', 'Beer Barrel Polka') on keyboard; Barbara McNabb ('Jar of Hearts', 'Satin Doll') on Clavinova; and Taka Iida ('Copacabana', 'Elan') on his magnificent 3 deck Yamaha. All in all a quality performance from everyone. Thank you all.

Peter Torckler one of our original club members entertained in the 2nd half on Clavinova and his Yamaha keyboard. Peter played a varied selection from the rousing 'Hawaii 5 O', Latin American numbers, and ended up fantastically on Clavinova with the 'Flight of The Bumblebee', a 'Walk in The Black Forest' and 'All of Me'. Thank you Peter, you have not lost any of your magic!

Creative Keyboard Club February 2014 Meeting

Creative Keyboard Club February 2014 Meeting

Marlene Forrest was the MC for the afternoon and Ian Jackson played the arrival music.
Peter Jackson started on keyboard with 'Cavatina' providing the lesser known vocals. He also played and sang 'Juke Box On Saturday Night'.
Barbara Powell followed with 2 Orchestral pieces on Tyros, 'Serenade' from The Student Prince and 'To Each His Own'. It is not often we hear the orchestra on the keyboard.
5 year old Chloe Baughan then entertained us with her song and dance routine 'On The Good Ship Lollipop'. This was followed by soloist mum Jan Marie Baughan singing 'No One Like You' (from the movie Powder) and 'My Prayer'. Jan Marie was accompanied by Dorothy Waddell on Clavinova.
Rob Powell was next up with 'You Make Me Feel So Young' and 'Island In The Sun' on keyboard. Rob is eagerly awaiting his Tyros 5!
Ian Jackson was back again with 'Over The Rainbow' and 'September Song'.
Carole Littlejohn, who was passing through again, finished off our first half with 'Only You' and 'Fernandos Hideaway'.
Thank you to all our first halfers - you all did a wonderful job!

After our tea break guest artist jazz pianist Mike Walker (President of the Auckland Jazz & Blues Club), entertained with some classic jazz pieces on clavinova. These included tunes from the likes of Fats Waller and even the Beatles ('Eleanor Rigby'). 'Tangerine', 'Monk's Dream', 'McArthur Park' to name a few and ended with Sweet Georgia Brown. Mike's own composition 'Smile' written for his daughter was also enjoyed. Many Thanks again Mike - and I think your jokes were age appropriate!
