5 year old Chloe Baughan then entertained us with her song and dance routine 'On The Good Ship Lollipop'. This was followed by soloist mum Jan Marie Baughan singing 'No One Like You' (from the movie Powder) and 'My Prayer'. Jan Marie was accompanied by Dorothy Waddell on Clavinova.

After our tea break guest artist jazz pianist Mike Walker (President of the Auckland Jazz & Blues Club), entertained with some classic jazz pieces on clavinova. These included tunes from the likes of Fats Waller and even the Beatles ('Eleanor Rigby'). 'Tangerine', 'Monk's Dream', 'McArthur Park' to name a few and ended with Sweet Georgia Brown. Mike's own composition 'Smile' written for his daughter was also enjoyed. Many Thanks again Mike - and I think your jokes were age appropriate!

Creative Keyboard Club October 2013 Meeting

CREATIVE KEYBOARD CLUB OCT 2013 MEETING

Our MC for the occasion was Dave Hallam and our arrival music was played by John Beales. We were honored with a visit by Peter Torckler one of the founding members and past President.

Gwyneth Beck started off the afternoon on our club organ with 'Scarlet Ribbons' and 'Sailing'. Nice to see the organ in use once again and well played.

Next up was Hannah Tani (8yrs), maybe our youngest ever performer, making her club debut on Clavinova with 'Entry of the Gladiators' and 'Storm at Midnight'. What a fantastic effort Hannah and at such a young age!

Cameron Livingstone was also making his club debut on Clavinova with 'Moonlight Sonata' and 'One Final Effort'. Very well executed and no music shows how professional and dedicated you really are.

Another debut performance from George Markwick on his Korg PA800 with 'My Way' and 'Your Cheating Heart'. Well done George.

Noni Walker was back with us again after an absence playing 'Return To Me' and 'Tea For Two' on Clavinova. Very easy listening style Noni.

Colin Crann on his Korg keyboard with 'Watch What Happens' and 'Flamingo'. Great as usual Colin.

Allan Powell was next on his Yamaha PSR 910 with 'South Of The Border' and 'When The Rain Tumbles Down In July' including vocals. Nice to hear some Tex Morton vocals Allan.

Peter Torckler then ended our first half with 'A Certain Smile' and 'My Way' on Clavinova. Thank you for the impromptu concert as you were passing through.

Our guest artist Chris Larking brought along the latest Yamaha CVP 605 and wowed us with a great selection including the Magnificent 7 theme featuring pan flute, some Jazz, Gospel, Gershwin, a Moon segment (Fly Me To The Moon, Blue Moon,), Flamingo and Steel Guitars, demonstrating the different Styles of the CVP 605. He was then joined by Dave Hallam on our club Clavinova for the last segment (Satin Doll, March of the Troubadours, Twinkle Twinkle, Waltzing Matilda). This was an impromptu slapstick of comedy and great music as only Chris and Dave can do! Thank You both and to Chris for a great introduction to the latest CVP.

Our Guest Artiste was Andy Cochrane who demonstrated the Yamaha PSRS950 state of the art keyboard. He started with the Universal Theme Song (incorporating the Hobbit Theme) and then jazzed up 'Mack the Knife'. The Beatles vocals were then added to 'Ticket To Ride' using the USB Multi Pad showing us the capabilities of the PSRS950. His Tip of the Day was for us to get to know the individual instruments and play them as they would actually be played. He then continued to get us acquainted with the keyboard playing a variety of genres including the theme from 'Great Escape', some disco and Eric Clapton favourites with a touch of classical in 'Swan Lake' (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies) and ending with 'Georgia'. A thoroughly enjoyable hour Andy ... Thank You!
